Returning as MC for his second consecutive year at the Location Managers Guild International Awards, David Doumeng warmed up the enthusiastic crowd with classic location manager humor.
“When I come home from work I have a walk through the house to make sure my kids didn’t mess anything up,” said Doumeng.
Doumeng, received an award at the Location Managers Guild Awards during its first celebration in 2014. The seasoned vet was pleased to announce this year’s event – held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Glendale’s Alex Theater – marked the guild’s inaugural year with full International recognition. The crowd applauded the guild’s new name: Location Managers Guild International.
If anyone questioned the power a strong location manager wields, director Michael Mann put those doubts to rest when presenting the Lifetime Achievement Awards to Janice Polley.
“After Katrina, Janice was able to get Florida to prioritize getting power up and running on the streets for our shoot first,” said Mann.
The Eva Monley Award winner, Wes Anderson, was fittingly on location during the ceremony. Accepting the award on his behalf were alums from Anderson’s Oscar nominated feature “The Grand Budapest Hotel”: actors Tony Revolori and Jeff Goldblum. Goldbulm reflected on the importance of the award’s namesake, Eva Monley. After fleeing Germany in WWII Monley focused on feature production, and ensured location managers remained essential to her films. He stated Anderson maintained the sense of community and valued crew member contributions that Monley inspired.
“With Wes, there is a delicious sense of community and a true love of the art,” stated Goldblum.
