HBO Archive bolsters entertainment event footage in their Entertainment News Archives
Posted on Thursday, December 24, 2009
In an effort to support commercial and professional media outlets looking for archival and stock footage, HBO Archives recently announced that over 13,000 videotapes have been catalogued and added to their Entertainment News Library. The clips, available in both standard and high definition through both video and text searches, cover some of the entertainment industry's most prominent events and individuals.
"This collection is one of great depth and breadth," says Chris Spencer, Senior Vice President, HBO Creative Services. "Since the 70s we have produced celebrity featurettes and specials, resulting in a plethora of one-of-a-kind archival footage."
Additions to the HBO Archives include red carpet premieres, gala events, celebrity interviews, and profiles of prominent directors, actors, musicians producers and writers. A sampling of the clips include: the 1993 Michael Jackson Heal the World Press Conference, the Friars Club Roast of Neil Simon, the 1990 Buddy Holly Tribute with Paul McCartney, Bob Hope’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony, and the 1993 American Comedy Awards Ceremony with George Carlin.
Full coverage of major industry award events including the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes and Cannes Film Festival is now available in the archive. The coverage includes pre-show nomination lunches, pre- and post-show interviews, and post show party coverage.
HBO Archives Entertainment News Footage also includes clips from many HBO original programs, including behind the scenes footage of recent favorites like "Sex and the City" and "The Sopranos" as well as older series including "The Talk Show," "Behind the Scenes," and "World Entertainment Report."
"The mid-80s through the mid-90s were our golden period," said Spencer. "We went beyond the featurettes and produced original series that continued to build respect within the celebrity community."
