“Hollywood is alive and well and open for business!”
With those words, Bill Farrar, the freshly appointed chairperson of the board to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce kicked off the Hollywood Expo 2010. Celebrating its 50th year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce opened the once exclusive expo to members of the Los Angeles business and entertainment community so they may have the opportunity to experience the businesses that exist in their own back yard.
“Hollywood isn’t just about the tourists,” said Tim Overbeck, Membership Account Executive. “Professionals in the community need to see that they don’t have to travel outside of their own community for exceptional service and products. We’re giving people a chance to connect and get to know each other and make some contacts.”
Amongst the businesses exhibiting was Go Green Promos. President Steven Perlmuter has created promotional items in a variety of materials and styles for companies such as The Disney Channel, Paramount, Warner Bros., L’Oreal and many others.
“I try to encourage my customers to use environmentally friendly materials and eco-conscious designs,” said Perlmuter. “However, my goal is to keep the customer happy. As long as it is possible, I’ll create the item of their choice from the material of their choice.”
Angstrom Lighting had an attractive array of colorful, rotating display lights spinning around their setup. Their company can handle a diverse array of lighting needs: from production and grip needs to private parties.
“We can handle anything, from the rental of one single light to a theatrical production’s needs,” said Anne deVenzo, Service Coordinator.
In addition to vendors as diverse as the Global Massage, Continental Airlines, and Universal Studios, there were many restaurants eager to provide samples and promote their catering abilities. Twenty Five Degrees, the upscale diner located at the Roosevelt Hotel was offering tomato bisque and mini grilled cheese sandwiches. The Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles had a chocolate fondue complete with assorted fruit and cake slices for dipping. EAST Restaurant had scallop sashimi in a lime ginger sauce served on the half-shell. And Morton’s Steakhouse had mini prime rib sandwiches served on their fresh baked bread.
“The mini sandwiches are tasty, but I think the flavor’s much better when you come in and have the full portion,” said Chef Gabino Avila.
