In 1993 Jonathan Erland developed a series of highly luminant dyes and pigments that were formulated to block red wavelength light. This resulted in green screens and paint that reflect a focused band of pure green. The new Digital Green® materials were quickly adopted by the major studios. A few of our more notable productions are: Life of Pi, The Dark Night, The Lord of the Rings, 300, Titanic, and Sin City. In 1996, Jon and Kay Erland were awarded the Scientific and Engineering Academy Award for developing The Digital Series® Traveling Matte Backing System. In 2018 Jon was awarded a Gordon E. Sawyer Award (an Oscar® statuette) for technological contributions that have brought credit to the industry.
