John Roderick
John Roderick is a Los Angeles based commercial cinematographer/director of photography serving creative agencies, brands and directors that need specialty within the action sports and adventure lifestyle categories. John built a reputation with some of todays most celebrated adventure sports athletes and brands to capture imagery in some of the worlds most rugged and remote locations. With an incredible production, logistic and specialty camera knowledge, John continues to work on some of the most unforgiving peaks and coastlines from Namibia to Iceland. Cut from the outdoors, John has served as a cinematographer/director of photography to both endemic and popular brands brands and creative agencies like Red Bull Media House, Anonymous Content, BBDO, Publicis, Ryot, Discovery Channel, Oakley, Beats, Samsung, AT&T and Aflac.

Born in the small mill town of Rumford, Maine, John dropped out of high school and caught a Greyhound west to the mountains of Colorado in the late 90’s to pursue his passion for snowboarding. It was this backdrop that inspired him to reach for a Arriflex 16mm film camera to capture the many intrepid people and places within the action & adventure sports community. Later crossing John’s career as an adventure filmmaker came the calling from close friend, musician and social activist Michael Franti & Spearhead, which the two collaborate closely with to create films and music videos that highlight the message of ordinary people, doing extraordinary things to change the world.

John holds feature film lighting and master cinematography certificates under the mentorship of cinematographer Russel Carpenter (Titanic, Avatar 2&3, Charlie’s Angels) and lighting gaffer Morris Flam (The Tourist, Black Swan, Cold Mountain).
