Palace Costume & Prop Co. started out as The Crystal Palace - the first antique and vintage store on Melrose Ave. in West Hollywood in the late 1960s. Melody sold beautiful Victorian dresses, shawls, bakelite jewelry and much more to famous movie stars and recording artists until costume designers advised her to stop selling and start renting. Melody feels that the explosion of vintage being the hip thing thing to wear along with the costume designer’s approach to costuming characters more realistically, made it possible for her to transition from a successful retail business to rental.
Nowadays she is strictly rental and not open to the public but in the beginning she did it all - weddings, parties, fashion shows, swap meets, trunk shows and parking lot sales. She also made fun and interesting clothes from vintage that was already damaged beyond repair.
Melody’s vast knowledge of vintage and its potential, the help of expert & dedicated friends and family, nineteen hour days spent collecting, cleaning, repairing and organizing it has created this successful, spectacular collection. And, of course, she’s not done yet…
